Dear Warren,
Australia’s own James Halliday said in the 2009 edition of The Wine Companion, that “Best’s winery and vineyards are among Australia’s best kept secrets.” So today, we welcome you to the first edition of the Best Kept Secrets eNewsletter!
Founded back in 1866, Best’s Great Western has some of the oldest vines in Australia. The winery is now run by the fifth generation of our family and we look forward to sharing our news, latest offers, and other Best’s wine stories with you in the future.
Cheers,

Bin 1 Shiraz: Your introduction to Great Western Wines |
 |
 |
Best’s is synonymous with outstanding Shiraz with great longevity and this is the wine that gives people their first taste of the Best’s Great Western Shiraz style – approachable, medium bodied, textural and full of spicy, peppery fruit characteristics. It typifies the essence of Best’s minimalist approach to winemaking and the uniqueness of this cool climate region.
Having just released our 2008 vintage we are most excited about how this wine is tasting and already it’s getting great reviews. Winemaker Adam Wadewitz says; “2008 was a spectacular bounce back year from the devastating frosts of 2007. The quality and concentration of fruit was excellent resulting in a wine with a generous mid palate but still retaining the elegant spicy and peppery flavours".

Great Western Riesling 2009
Another top effort from this underrated Riesling producer. Very pale straw colour with a tinge of green on the edges and watery hue. Classic Riesling nose with aromas of orange blossom, lime, mineral and lemon, displaying excellent intensity and varietal character. The palate is generous in it's flavour profile whilst also displaying excellent precision. Flavours of ripe lime, orange rind, citrus and mineral. Excellent length with crisp acid backbone. Very long aftertaste of lemon, lime and tropical fruit.
Nicks Wine Merchants Newsletter - Issue 429 - 23 Sept 2009
"Did half a dozen 09 rieslings tonight. Best’s Great Western 09 a clear winner – beautifully defined, linear and intense. A Ripper."
Winsor Dobbin on Twitter Wed 23 Sept.
Best's Great Western Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
"There’s a freshness to these 2008 Best’s Great Western reds that I’m not sure I’ve seen before in young Best’s wines. It’s not a radical departure but the winemaking seems more ‘modern’. In a good way."
Campbell Mattinson
